Kennevale Child CareThe Day Care Centre located at 56 Kennevale Drive and is open Monday through Friday between 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. We operate in compliance with:
The Toddler ProgramChildren are natural born learners, with a desire and drive to learn as very young babies. In our program (aged fifteen months to two and a half years) we see from one month to the next, great leaps forward in each child’s physical, social, emotional, cognitive, and language development. While all children develop in similar ways, each child is unique and developmental milestones are reached at different rates. All aspects of development are stimulated throughout the
day, interspersed with a generous helping of love, consistency, security,
and trust. Music is a very important aspect of our program. Toddlers love to sing, especially when a song has lots of actions and repetition. Art and sensory activities are incorporated daily into our toddler program. The children thoroughly enjoy these activities. There are fifteen children in our program. The ratio is one teacher to five children. Teachers and parents seek a common goal to nurture and guide children in a loving, safe, and secure environment. Junior Preschool ProgramThe Junior Preschool program has sixteen children aged 2.5 years through 3.5 years. The child to teacher ratio is 8:1. Our program activities help to develop the “whole”
child. We program for the physical, cognitive, emotional and social development
of the children. Our schedule includes indoor/outdoor play; quiet/active
play and child directed/teacher directed learning. By observations we pick an activity the children are very interested in. and have them elaborate on this activity. We ask question at circle time or large group circle about the topic. Our present science project, butterfly larva is of great interest. We talk about the evolving butterflies. Senior Preschool ProgramThere are twenty-four children in our program. They are three and four years of age. The child teacher ratio is 8:1. The emphasis in our program is to provide a warm and nurturing environment, where the children can feel safe and secure. Our goal is to plan and implement a stimulating and enriching program, keeping in mind their areas of development physical, social, emotional, cognitive and language. We have many different learning centers for the children
to learn at and to enjoy. Our small and large group times consist of reading
stories, singing songs, music and movement, as well as games and activities,
all enhancing their social, cognitive, and language skills. Outdoor play
is an important part of our daily routine. In the Senior Preschool program
we use the “project approach” to learning. This concept is
self-motivated learning initiated by the children and implemented by the
teachers. We invite you to come and visit our program during our fall parent information evening. Junior Kindergarten ProgramThe Junior Kindergarten program facilitates creativeness, curiosity, independence and a positive environment. The program has an added advantage of being attached to Mary Honeywell School. This enables our teachers to meet the children at their respective classrooms. This provides a smooth transition for the children between school and child care. We provide service for children attending Elizabeth A. Seton School, who buss the children to the child care centre. This program provides a stimulating environment that challenges
the child and provides a fun filled environment! Senior Kindergarten ProgramWelcome to the Senior Kindergarten Program. We have an enrollment of twelve children. Our program compliments what the children are learning in their respective primary classes at school with emphasis on early literacy and pre-math skills. Our curriculum is theme related as well as utilizing the project approach / emergent curriculum. This type of curriculum helps to develop small projects that are created by the children’s interests. School-Age Program Our program provides before and after school care for forty-five children between the ages 6-10. This program offers a variety of activities and includes outdoor play. The children are given the opportunity to choose from a variety of activities. This allows them personal choice with many advantages for their development. We have group discussions with the children, which allows us to have their input on activities and program ideas. The children help set the rules and therefore, logical consequences
when these rules are not followed. The school age program provides a fun filled learning experience for everyone! Malvern Child Care
The centre operates every Monday trough Friday between 7: 00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. providing a program for children aged 3 years, 6months to 10 years, 8months. A fully qualified staff of early childhood educators helps to ensure quality care and programming for the children.
The centre support, encourage and facilitate a co-operative working relationship with parents in order to meet the needs of the children entrusted to our care. Barrhaven Family Resource CentreOur Family Resource Centre has been in operation since the spring of 1990. It is opened 4 mornings and 2 afternoons per week for 39 weeks a year. It is opened Tuesday and Thursdays at the Kennevale site, Tuesday and Wednesday mornings at Barrhaven United Church. The program welcomes stay at home moms, dads and caregivers to gather and network with one another. The program is lead by a Drop-In Coordinator and acts as an information and referral for services in the community. The Resource Center provides workshops on variety of topics throughout
the year. There is also a Resource Library that includes a variety of
books, cassettes, videos, and pamphlets on child development, parenting
and self-growth. For a minimal cost, a toy lending library enables members
to borrow a wide selection of toys for children from birth to five years
of age. The program is very fortunate to have a strong volunteer commitment. There is a sense of pride of ownership in the program. We have to raise approximately $9,000.00 per year for the operations of the program all done by volunteers. This includes 2 Childrens Used Clothing, Toys and Equipment Sales and a Valentines Day Dinner Dance that is both enjoyed by the community. Nursery SchoolThe Nursery School is a part-time program for preschool children, with a focus on social/emotional development in a group. The children attend from mid-September to mid-June on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. We are licensed to accommodate sixteen children in the morning class, aged 2 ½ and up, and sixteen children in the afternoon class, aged three and up. There are two Early Childhood Educators with each class. The Nursery School curriculum is based on The Project Approach. Teachers
observe the children to see where their interests lie, identify a Project
topic and then develop activities around that topic. Examples of past
Projects include Building, Trains, Beavers, Music, and Dogs.
Activities will be in the areas of art, small muscle development, games,
storytelling, cooking and science, and social/emotional development. Parents
are involved in the program by participating in field trips, and helping
with such special activities as tobogganing days or baking days. Visitors
to our program have included a nurse, firefighters, and a letter carrier. As well as indoor play, the program includes snack, circle time (stories and songs in a small group) and outdoor play, in our fenced in playground. |
