Program Development
At
Barrhaven Child Care Centre, the program has been planned to promote all
areas of development for the children. Daily schedules and program plans
are posted in the various playrooms to inform the parents of the different
activities the children will partake in throughout the week. These plans
allow for indoor and outdoor, quiet and active play, self-directed and
structured time to enable the child to develop in all areas.
Learning Centres have been established in the following areas: creative
art, housekeeping/dramatic play; science and sensory; unit block; cognitive;
quiet corner - including books and tapes; and table top and manipulative
toy area. Objectives and goals for each area are established. As the child
engages in play, the teacher's role is to provide personal care and individual
support and attention. The teacher is also the facilitator, recognizing
that each child has different needs and progresses at a different pace.
